TheHaiRazor HairStory: Hair Color Horror Story!

Check out this color disaster story from HaiRazor Reader and my girl Kim over at NeverHeardOfIt.net!

When I was doing my first year of undergraduate school at a small country town in south GA I decided I wanted to get my hair colored because that was seemingly the IT thing to do: So my bestfriend and I went to this run down franchise hair placed that was clearly made for people with blue and green eyes (we wasn’t aware of the obvious) and I let them color my hair. 4 days later big chunks started to come out and by the 5th day I had a big hole in the middle of my head. I cried hysterically to my mother and she rushed to the school and took me back to a Atlanta salon as If I was being life flighted after a horrible car crash. The atlanta stylist cut my hair in a Halle Berry shortstyle and I loved it… It was sooooo sexy and she saved my life just as those surgeons do in the ER. So I’m wondering do they send reject hair stylist to small towns or is the hair of an African american women that drastically different from that of other races. What ever the case may be that sorry lady #failed big time

TheHaiRazor Hair Tip: Before you commit to color, make sure your stylist does a strand test and patch test. A strand test is when you take a strand of your hair and apply color to it to see if your hair will react in any odd way. A patch text is when color is applied to an area of your skin to make sure that you are not allergic to the hair color.

TheHaiRazor HairStory: A Lock Disaster!

Check out this HairStory from TheHaiRazor.com reader, Yakini!

I moved to Colorado and went to get my locks done. When I walked into the place to get my hair done, I said to myself this is a joke?!? I thought I was getting punked! LOL The shop was in the back of a restaurant. This was so funny, when the girl did my hair I saw beeswax on her table. Silly me thought she knew not to put that on my hair”. When I went to look at my hair I was fuming, I told her I know you dont expect for me to pay for this. She put beeswax in my hair. I have had my locks for 8 years they didn’t need beeswax and have never had it in my hair. I just decided to cut them off and perm it up. I missed the ATL so bad. I am in Savannah now o if I decided to go that route again I think I will be good.

Quick HaiRazor Hair Tip: Beeswax isn’t the best to use in your locks. It can be greasy, attracts dust and prevents your hair from locking. Avoid using a locking products with petroleum in them. Alternative products are pomades, clay, balms, creams, or styling glue.

TheHaiRazor HairStory: NEVER Let Your Brothers Help You With Your Hair!

Funny story from TheHaiRazor.com Reader, Chesiley!

I was 8 years old with long beautiful hair and my mother used to style my hair in braids all over. She told me to take them down on Friday and here it was Sunday and I still had not done so. On Sunday, before she left to go out with some friends, she said “you better have those braids out of your head or I’m gonna whip you”. I started taking them out and soon realized that I would be there all day by myself. Soooooo, I asked my brothers to help me, who were like 2 years older. They figured that they needed to use scissors to take down my real hair! They had braids all over the floor…..I’m 22 years old now and my hair is still trying to recoup!

TheHaiRazor HairStory: “Chlorine”

HaiRazor HairStory: "Chlorine"
Hey HaiRazor Family! I’m adding a new feature to the site, “HaiRazor HairStory”. It will feature HairStories from my past, friends, family, clients, and even you! If you have a HairStory you would like to share send it in to me at ayana@thehairazor.com. Ok so here it goes, my HairStory about Chlorine…

Aaahhhh summer, schools out, it’s hot, and I was in summer camp. I may have been nine or ten at the time. We were in Summit, New Jersey and my mother enrolled me in the local YMCA close to her job. I stuck out like a sore thumb, being that I was the only black girl there. Every other girl was either “white” or “mixed”, with what I thought was “good hair” at the time. We had swimming lessons every day and my mom had me make sure I wore my swim cap so the chlorine from the pool wouldn’t harm my relaxed hair. Even with the swim cap, my hair got a little wet. I saw the other girls just rinse their hair after lessons and put it up in a messy bun. At the time I thought I could do the same thing, but boy was I wrong. Fast forward to one too many times doing that (and not shampooing my hair right after I got out the pool), my hair started breaking. My poor hairline was DONE! So the lesson I actually did learned that summer, since I still don’t know how to swim, was to make sure and take extra care for your hair when dealing with chlorine. Oh and my hairline did eventually grow back! :-)

**HaiRazor Tip** Paul Mitchell Shampoo Three is a great shampoo to remove chlorine from your hair. Just shampoo twice, followed by a conditioning shampoo, then conditioner.
