As an entreprenuer, your schedule can become overwhelming if you let it. There is always something that needs to be done. Marketing, sales, sharpening your skills, researching your industry, attending networking functions, clients, content for your website, tweeting and facebooking so you can stay connected, just to name a few…and that is not even mentioning family time, a dating life, or a social life.
Sound familiar? I get it. I understand this 150%. I am a life coach for single lady entreprenuers. I am a single lady entrepreneur too. I’ve been following my own advice for some time. I encourage my clients to maintain a job or source of income while bootstrapping their business during the hours they are not at work. This is important because it provides income while the business is developing and maturing. It can be exciting and, at times, overwhelming.
Often, for many of us, days of rest and recreation get shuffled to the bottom of the deck. We are a unique breed of ladies. Sharp, intelligent, driven and ambitous (not to mention, gorgeous and super fly!). Yet despite those qualities, we must learn to schedule time for ourselves. Today I have a day off from work, which usually means a full day of working on my life coaching firm. Today was a bit different though. I am learning to incorporate rest into my schedule.
If you are anything like me, thinking you posess superhuman powers that make you exempt from this villian called “sleep” or it’s ally, “rest”, I would encourage you to reevaluate and take a day off…ok ok maybe even a half day off, to rest. Catch up on some “me time”. Get a mani pedi. Take a nap. Something!
I enjoyed some down time today. Now I am about to get dressed and go work on my coaching business for a few hours before going out to enjoy this Friday night. I feel more alert, happier (studies show that you are 31% more productive when you are in a good mood) and ready to knock a few things out.
What I am trying to say is this: the world won’t come to an end, your business won’t come to an end (at least it shouldnt …if so, you may need to come see me ) and your life won’t go down the drain if you take some time to charge your batteries. In fact, all of these things could happen if you DONT take time to rest. There is only one you. Take care of yourself.
1. List one way you will rest each week for the next month. (It doesn’t have to be long or expensive)
2. List one way to enjoy “me time” each week for the next month. (Again, it doesn’t have to be long or expensive. The main point is to take care of yourself)
3. Schedule these on your calendar and do them.
4. Find someone to hold you accountable .
