Ask TheHaiRazor: “How Can I Tame These Edges?”

I was in Wal-Mart with my husband last week and the girl checking us out overheard that I was a hairstylist. She the politely asked if she could ask me a hair question. I said sure and she proceeded. She said her hair is natural and she wanted to know of any good gels or pomades that could help slick her hair into a ponytail. She tried the “brown” gel, Jam, and others but by mid-day its no longer slick, but a frizzy ponytail. Her hair was in a ponytail that day so I could see for myself what the gel failed to do.

There are two products that I told her may work for her needs. The first was Hick’s Edges Pomade. My client suggested this product to me a while back and it works really good! Hicks doesn’t clump on the hair but it is best to use it on clean, dry hair. It retails for about $15 but you can find it online cheaper on some sites. They had a website a while back but now I can’t seem to find it!

The second product is a bit like Hick’s but much cheaper. I’ve never tried it but it’s the Organic Root Stimulator Edge Control Hair Gel. The gel retails for about $5 at your local beauty supply and online. I’ve seen really good reviews about this product on YouTube. I’ll make sure and try it out for you guys really soon!

Do you know of any other products that can help tame those edges? If so, feel free to drop a line below!

I don’t know where I’ve been but I had no idea that Bigen now sells semi-permanent hair color. I was looking in this month’s Essence magazine and saw an ad for it. The ad said it was new, but how new? Anyway if you’re like me and didn’t know, well now you do!

Gentle, oil-rich, conditioning formulas with honey, beeswax & sunflower, provide long-lasting color without ammonia or peroxide. Excellent gray hair coverage. Safe for all hair types including chemically treated and relaxed hair. Leaves hair shiny, soft and beautiful.

Below are the swatches again and the name of each shade.
