On our journey to beautiful, healthy hair, we tend to focus on just our hair and not the tools we use for it. We have the nicest brushes, combs, flat irons, etc, but the brush is full of hair, the comb has teeth missing, and the flat iron has product build up all over it. You may never think about it, but you’re causing more harm to your hair by not taking care of your precious hair tools.

Here are some quick tips on how to clean and store your hair tools:

Wash your combs and brushes! Ok you might say DUH to this tip but some people don’t clean their combs and brushes. It’s really gross! Once or twice a week, take a mild soap and properly clean your combs and brushes. You don’t want to use a dirty comb on clean hair!
Store your brushes face down in a drawer. This way, dust or whatever else is in the air, won’t land on your bristles.
Wipe off your flat irons and blow dryers. Over time, hair products can gunk up on these tools. You can use rubbing alcohol and a soft cloth to remove the grease build up. Oh and make sure it’s off and DON’T USE WATER!
Don’t let your friends use your stuff! Real talk, you don’t know their hair regimen.

OPI Hong Kong Collection

Soooo on Monday at my color class, I was able to check out the OPI Hong Kong Collection coming out next month(February 2010). The collection is very pretty with super vibrant colors. I didn’t pick any of the collection up yet, but once I figure out which ones I really want I will! I am digging Meet Me On The Star Ferry though!

My Personal Beauty Supply Buys

What’s up fam! So it’s been a few days… yeah I know… my bad . I took a few days off for the holiday and I was getting over a little cold. Any who, I’m back and I wanted to share with you guys my personal beauty supply buys. I mostly buy professional products (one’s you can only get in a professional supply store) for work and personal use, but sometimes I switch it up a bit. Plus, some cheaper products are just better to me.

Last night I picked up Clairol’s Jazzing semi-permanent Bluest Black color, Murray’s Beeswax, a hair cutter and blue hair extensions. If you’re looking for a cheap semi-permanent color, Jazzing is it. It does a pretty good job and is a one stop shop, no mixing, just apply straight from the bottle. Now Murray’s Beeswax is usually used for locs and natural twist, but I use it to spike and style my hair. It’s the BEST cheapest product out there for spiking and styling short hair. The hair cutter I bought is for thinning out the extensions I put in my hair sometimes. AND FINALLY, the blue hair… well you guys know I like to add some color the non-permanent way. 5 Things To Look For When Choosing A Flat Iron

All flat irons are not alike. Like many things you buy, you have to do your research before investing in a good flat iron. Here are things to look for before the big purchase:

Start with your hair texture. Is your hair texture fine, medium, or course? If you have fine to medium hair, look for a flat iron that goes up to 400 degrees. Course hair would better benefit off of a flat iron that goes up to 450 degrees.
Temperature Control. Make sure the flat iron has a temperature dial. The degrees will go from 150-450 or 1-25. This is VERY important because you don’t want to fry your hair.
Size does matter. Make sure a choose a flat iron that goes along with your hair length. If your hair is short, look for a mini flat iron or one with a 3/8″- 1.5″ plate. If you have longer hair, look for an iron with a 1″-3″ plate.
Weight. Make sure you choice a flat iron you are comfortable holding. Irons for short hair are often light, which makes them quicker and easier to manuver. Cheap irons can be bulky and heavy, so try to find a good light iron for longer hair as well. It may cost more but it is well worth the price.
Look for “Ceramic”. Make sure the flat iron you choose is ceramic. Be careful though, some irons with the “ceramic” label do “lie”. Some cheaper irons just have a ceramic coating on it claiming to be fully ceramic. Make sure the flat iron has a full ceramic plate. That means RESEARCH! Google the brand before you buy.
